Maui Update

This is going to be a very quick post, really because I’ve been slacking and didn’t have a Blogmas post planned for today, but also because I just want to celebrate some good news!

We have been testing Maui’s blood sugar at home more often (his next vet appointment isn’t until next month) so I’ve been testing him before his shots each morning and night, and from my understanding of diabetes, it looks good! His blood sugar was 491 when he was diagnosed in September, and tonight it went to its lowest so far of 270!

Of course that is still really high, and he is definitely still diabetic, but it’s been progressively trending down and with my limited knowledge of diabetes that seems like huge progress in a couple of months.

He has also lost some more weight with his current weight being 16.8 lbs. (he was 24 lbs. at his heaviest). We do need to keep an eye on him to make sure he isn’t losing weight too quickly, but where he is down to 16.8 from 17.75 at the beginning of November I think that’s a healthy pace.

I don’t really have anything else to add, and I guess I’ll get more of an informative update when we go to the vet next month. I’ve just been trying so hard to get him better with giving his shots at the right times, and making sure he eats the food that’s best for him (and going to some insane measures when he isn’t feeling it) so I needed to share the news!
